ATM – Temporomandibular joint

When the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) does not function normally, a person may experience jaw pain, noises when opening the mouth (such as clicking), difficulty chewing, or even locking when trying to fully close or open. Depending on whether the problem lies in the bone, the disc, or the muscles, treatment will focus on restoring natural movement.

In simple terms, the TMJ is the joint that connects the jaw to the skull and is essential for speaking, eating, and yawning. Specialized treatment aims to assess and correct how this joint moves so it does not create tension in the face or neck.

For everything to work properly, a small disc between the bones must glide smoothly every time we move the mouth. Sometimes, due to excessive tension or teeth clenching, this disc shifts or the muscles become overloaded. We use mobility techniques and gentle exercises so the jaw returns to its proper position, the muscles relax, and the person can return to daily activities without discomfort.
